“Oh Death-Jen Titus, Work Song- Hozier,
Like Real People Do- Hozier”

This is a piece about life and death and love and loss. I want to deal with a lot of big ideas through this piece. The beginning will be creepy with some dancers acting as “death” coming to take away some dancers, while the dancers ask death to spare them. The middle of the piece moves into facing loss and change and trying to figure out how to rebuild yourself. The ending will be a happier celebration of love and life. This will also include some partnering, between all genders. I want this piece to be beautiful and strong and a celebration of learning how to face and cope with change without losing yourself along the way.

A Case Of You – James Blake

This is a contemporary couples piece about…couples. I want dancers with strong musicality who can tell a story with their dancing!

Aarti (Bhangra) Bhangra All

The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, You Make Me Better – Fabolous, Best Day of My Life – American Authors, Where the Party At – Jagged Edge, Shera Varge, 0 to 100 – Drake

a Bhangra set with some hip hop influence. Mood will be mostly smiling and happy, but if you can put some swag into it that’s even better :)

I’m expecting everyone to be beginners, so we’ll start at the very basics. Just looking for enthusiasm + energy!

This is about the crazy in you.

Christine & Miles Contemp/jazz Intermediate/Advanced

Say You Love Me – Jessie Ware

This dance will feature 3 girls and 5 boys. The 3 girls all represent the same person. I haven’t figured out exactly what the struggle is yet, but basically she is riding the strugglebus, hard. The boys around her represent the pillars we (try to) lean on when we are down and seeking help. However, sometimes these pillars of strength betray us, whether we are trying to rely on ourselves or each other. Basically scenarios involving seeking approval, acceptance, companionship, and lack thereof. I will (eventually) have a concrete storyline, but it is TBD. Looking for dancers with strong performance quality (esp since there will be solo time for the girls), ability to learn and retain choreo reliably, and (for the ladies) strong technique. Aim to finish the piece in 5-6 weeks and polish for the rest of the term. Will involve couple and group partner choreo.

Gotta Get Through This (John Sawyer)

This is a slightly less conventional and more difficult tap piece set to a calm song where we provide the rhythm. We will be looking for people who have tap experience, are light on their feet, and can move their arms gracefully and look relaxed. The music begins slow, with some very short, quick tap solos, and then takes on a more snappy feel. Should be pretty awesome.

Elenna, Elise, Ali, & Olivia (Ballet Collabo) Ballet Intermediate/Advanced

Join us in rocking out, ballet style. This dance will be a fun contemporary ballet style piece with a lot of energy. We may also include pointe, but this dance is for anyone with ballet experience!

Happy Little Pill (Flaxo Remix) – Troye Sivan

I want to try to capture the feeling of laying on the floor and letting a song just wash over you; music that makes you feel something even if you can’t quite capture what that is. I want to focus on abstract shapes and dynamics onstage, and I’m not necessarily looking for people with super technical backgrounds because the movement quality (especially in the later parts of the dance) won’t be very lyrical/ballet based. I’m definitely interested in choreographing with people I’ve never worked with before…if you’re willing to explore new shapes and ranges of motion in your body then I’d love to dance with you :)

Toxic by Yael Naim

The dance is about addiction and wanting something even though you know its bad for you. The dance will tell a story most likely highlighting one person as the drug and one person as the addict. There will be a lot of lifts and partnering sections.

Chrystal & Karinna Hip Hop All

My Shine – Childish Gambino; Centipede – Childish Gambino; Let It feat. Melo X (EdIT Remix) – Machinedrum; Like Whaaat – Problem; Or nah remix – Ty Dolla and The Weeknd, Chicken noodle soup – Webstar and Young B

Fun, energetic, a lot of cocky moments. Gender neutral, lots of dynamics. We want to show that everyone has badass swag inside them. We want all of our dancers to feel the exhilaration of letting that badass out on stage. The moves will not be super-fast, but there will be emphasis on expression in the slower or simpler moves. Dancers should be looking for experience showing their confidence and performing that mood and energy. We will expect dancers to work hard with us to make our piece look clean and awesome. But ultimately, this should be a fun piece and a growing experience for both dancers learning to let out that inner swag, and dancers who already enjoy doing so and want to do it more!

This piece is all about power and performance…and heels…(maybe :P). It will be a buck, intense piece that showcases your fierceness and sexiness in a more intense way. Expect your badass levels to increase by at least a factor of ten ;) Leaning towards all girls, but males, if you can rock out a pair of heels and some lipstick, don’t hold back :D

I Get Crazy by Nicky Minaj
Smashi Tup – Brillz” “Lil Red from the Hood

The not so classic tale of ratchet Lil Red lost in the darkest of forests followed by the Big Bad(ass) Wolf, off to Granny’s house party partyyy… or so she thinks.

The idea for this dance is to be a creative production of a well-known tale, combining swag with a dark/mysterious underlying tone. We want dancers to get the chance to be someone else: a character, a concept, an inanimate object maybe. They should perform with the intention of convincing the audience that they own their role in the set.

The choreo will be swag/ratchet but will have some abstract remix sections. We therefore want dancers who have different dance expertise and any level of dancer who is willing to go full out with facials and movements to bring the story to life.
